Safety at work issues today are of ever increasing importance. Injury and sickness to employee combined with material costs due to human error can have a significant impact on a company's performance.

"The cost to employers of workplace injuries and work-related ill health is estimated to be around £2.5 (€3.9) billion a year (in 1995/96 prices): about £0.9 (€1.4) billion for injuries and £1.6 (€2.5) nillion for illness"

The consequence for the individual is very significant, in terms of both health and financial wellbeing.

In 1994/95, in the UK -

  • There were over 1 million injuries at work
  • 1.3 million people suffered from work-related ill-health
  • 24.3 million working days were lost
  • 27000 people were forced to give up work due to injury

In 1999, in Switzerland:

  • 274'973 work related accidents were registered
  • 604 people died in work related accidents
  • The total cost of accidents in 1999 was 439,9 million Francs
